Privacy

This is a youth programme, so here is the short answer. We keep no accounts and no cookies of ours. We keep two things. Messages you send through the contact form or to the unit's email go to the unit's private staff inbox, which only unit admins can see. From store orders we keep the name of the person who paid and the cadet's name typed at checkout, so the unit knows whose order it is; only unit admins see them, and we delete them after 13 months. The detail below covers each part of the site.

What we collect

There are no accounts, no logins, no newsletter list, and no forms that save personal details. The store is the one place you hand over details: the cadet's name in the cart, and everything else (your name, email, payment and, for printed items, a shipping address) in PayPal's own windows, not ours. From each paid store order we keep the payer's name, the cadet's name you typed, the order number, the amount and the items bought. See The store below for who sees them and how long we keep them.

Cookies

None are set by us. Two things can be kept in your browser: a note that you dismissed the announcement strip at the top of the page, which clears when you close the tab, and your store cart, which stays on your device until you check out or empty it. Neither is a cookie, and neither is sent anywhere on its own.

There are two exceptions. The Home and Contact pages load a Google map when you scroll down to it, not before, and Google may set its own cookie at that moment. The "See the park on a map" link opens Google Maps in its own tab instead, where their rules apply and ours stop. And the My cart page loads PayPal's payment buttons from PayPal, so PayPal may set its own cookies there under PayPal's rules.

The contact form

When you press send, your message, name and email go to the unit's private staff inbox, the same place that email to info@thesullivansusnscc.com arrives. Only the unit's admins can see that inbox. A message is kept until someone has handled it, and deleted 365 days after it was handled. Nothing you type is passed to a third party. If the form cannot deliver your message, it opens a draft in your own email app instead.

Before the draft opens, the form checks that a person rather than a bot filled it in, using Cloudflare Turnstile. Turnstile is a challenge, not a profile: it sets no cookie and does not track you across other sites. Our server checks the result of that challenge and keeps no record of the check itself.

The store

Your cart is kept in this browser until you check out. When you press a PayPal button, our server receives only which items, sizes, drills and quantities you picked, the cadet's name you typed, and which way you chose to pay. It prices the order from our own price list and opens it with PayPal.

In PayPal's own windows you pay with PayPal, Venmo, Pay Later or a card, and for printed items PayPal gives us the shipping address you choose there. PayPal keeps your name, email and payment details, the cadet's name on the order, and the items, as part of the order, under its own privacy policy, and the division sees the order in its PayPal account. For printed items, the name, address and email needed for delivery go to our print partner, Printify, which prints and ships the order. We never see or hold a payment card.

When PayPal confirms an order is paid, we copy a few details into the unit's private staff records so we know who has paid dues and for which cadet: the payer's name, the cadet's name you typed, the order number, the amount and the items. Only the unit's admins can see the names. Other adult staff see only whether a cadet's dues are paid. We delete the names 13 months after the payment, and the rest of the record after 3 years. We do not keep your email address with the order; PayPal keeps it as part of your order. The unit's notice of each paid order is kept in the staff inbox under the same rules as contact messages.

Visitor numbers

We count page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics so we know whether recruiting is reaching anyone. It is cookie-free and it does not fingerprint your device or follow you to other websites. What we can see is aggregate: how many people opened a page, roughly where in the world they were, and which link sent them. We cannot see who you are.

Children

This site is written for parents and guardians, and a child has nothing to give away here: the only names we keep come from paid store orders, as described above. Enrollment happens on the national Sea Cadets website, not on ours, and any information a family enters there is handled under that programme's own policy. Store orders are paid in PayPal's windows.

Links and embeds that are not ours

Several pages link out to national Sea Cadets, to Google Maps, and to our social profiles, and the store's payment opens in PayPal's own windows. Once you follow one of those, you are on someone else's site under their rules, not ours. Two third-party things run inside a page here: the map, and PayPal's payment buttons on the My cart page. The store's photographs are served from this site.

Photographs

The photographs on this site are of cadets of The Sullivans Division, published with the unit's permission. Location and camera data is stripped from every image before it goes up. If you are a parent and you want a photograph of your cadet taken down, write to us and it comes down.
